Fashioning a Modern Woman

1920s fashion display at Petersfield Museum & Art Gallery (April 2026- March 2027)

Funded by the Costume Society, this exhibition centred around the results of a collections audit into the 1920s holdings of Petersfield Museum’s fashion and textile collection. Designed to be displayed alongside exhibitions of the work of Flora Twort and Stanley Spencer celebrating 100 years of Petersfield, I was responsible for undertaking the collections audit, research, and curation of the final display.

The research that informed the text interpretation explored the social and cultural context of the 1920s, from the opening of Tutankhamen’s tomb and the struggle for Egyptian independence to the influence of 1910s avant garde fashion and the First World War, that resulted in the creation of 5 unique garments.
